Latin American Gastronomic Festival
April 28th – May 6th 2009

From April 28th to May 6th the President Hotel´s Vltava restaurant hosted a unique gourmet event – the Latin American Gastronomic Festival. The Festival was organized in co-operation with the leaders of the Latin American Diplomatic Missions of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Uruguay, Venezuela and Peru and was held on the occasion of the 14th Ministerial Meeting of Rio Group members and the European Union members which took place in May, 2009 in Prague.

The Latin American Gastronomic Festival was inaugurated on April 27th with a gala evening, VIP guests of which included Ambassadors and other representatives of the Latin American countries involved. During the course of the evening guests had the opportunity to taste national dishes of all nine countries as well as their national drinks. Cuban band Santy y sú Marabú contributed to a festive atmosphere throughout the evening.

Each day of the festival was dedicated to the cuisine of one particular country and each menu was complemented by recommended wines. Some countries also served their national drinks, for example, Peru presented Pisco Sour whereas Venezuela presented its typical eau-de-vie. In adddition to this, some countries also presented their music; Argentina was represented by the musician Juan Carlos Vivas and, on behalf of Peru, there was a performance by a Peruvian folklore band. All dishes were carefully prepared by the President Hotel´s kitchen team in co-operation with chefs from the Embassies of the Latin American coutries involved.

Guillermo Olivares, General Manager of the President Hotel, said of the occasion: „I am very proud that we have succeeded in organizing such a significant culinary event as the Latin American Gastronomic Festival. I am very glad that, with the help of our partners, we were able to present in Prague the culinary specialties of Latin American countries and, based on a significant number of guests, I can confirm that the Festival was a success! Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to say a big ‚thank you‘ to all who have been involved throughout the preparation of the Festival.“      

Over the last fews years the President Hotel has become renowned amongst visiting and local gourmands. Apart from the Latin American Gastronomic Festival, the President Hotel has been host to other food festivals in the past, including Mexican, Venezuelan and Peruvian Gastronomy Festivals. In addition to this, the Hotel organizes an increasingly popular Chef´s show every second Wednesday of the month. The evenings are hosted by Milan Pešek, Executive Chef of the President Hotel, who prepares various dishes in front of his guests, who can benefit, not only from a wonderful meal, but also from learning many useful tips and tricks along the way.
